Digital Environmental Atlas

The Digital Environmental Atlas is a web based GIS tool used by Swedish authorities to inform about areas around the Swedish coast and big lakes, which are particularly vulnerable in case of oil spill. It also contains information about shoreline type and suitable methods for clean up and decontamination of the affected area.

The Digital Environmental Atlas supports rescue efforts, cleanup and contingency planning. It also supports prioritization, coordination and allocation of local and regional resources. The purpose is to minimize the effects on the environment from an oil spill.

The Digital Environmental Atlas was commissioned by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. It was developed by IVL the Swedish Environmental Research Institute in cooperation with the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland.

Each respective County Administrative Board is responsible for adding and keeping up to date county specific information. There is a management group responsible for overall development of the Digital Environmental Atlas. The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland has the overall responsibility for maintenance and development.
